Follow along as Fulbright Program sends two UAB School of Nursing faculty to Malawi in August

For the next three weeks The Trailblazer will track the journeys of UAB School of Nursing Professor and Deputy Director of the PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center Lynda Wilson, PhD, and Assistant Professor Deborah Kirk Walker, DNP, as they travel to Africa to work with faculty at the University of Malawi Kamuzu College of Nursing; Wilson helping with the implementation of the new PhD program at KCN, and Walker helping to integrate oncology nursing into their curriculum and providing support for oncology nursing education in Malawi. The projects are part of an ongoing collaboration between the nursing schools at KCN and UAB.

Both Dr. Wilson and Dr. Walker are in Malawi as a Fulbright Senior Specialists. The Fulbright Specialist Program promotes linkages between U.S. academics and professionals and their counterparts at host institutions overseas. The program is designed to award grants to qualified U.S. faculty and professionals, in select disciplines, to engage in collaborative two to six-week projects at host institutions in more than 100 countries worldwide. International travel costs and a stipend are funded by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

We hope you will join Drs. Wilson and Walker they work with their colleagues in Malawi to strengthen nursing education and patient care for the people of Malawi.
